When actress Halle Berry yells, “I’m in menopause,” on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, it’s time for employers to pay attention.
“The shame has to be taken out of menopause,” Berry, who was in D.C. supporting a bipartisan federal bill seeking $275 million to fund menopause research, said earlier this month. The bill is part of a growing movement to destigmatize menopause in the U.S.
As a result, women have been increasingly willing to raise legal challenges to menopause discrimination and lack of accommodations in the workplace. Employers can no longer ignore this critical barrier to women’s workplace equality.
